Pollarding
As with reducing, this is a more drastic method of maintaining a tree that is too large for its surroundings. It involves all growth being stripped from the tree so that it is left as just a trunk. Although drastic, this is an effective method of controlling the size of fast growing responsive trees such as poplar and willow. Within a year these trees will start to look natural again.
