Crown Thining and Lifting

Crown thinning is the process of even removal of the inner crown.   It is an opportunity to go methodically throughout the tree's crown and take out any weak, touching or dead branches.   The main benefit of crown thinning is the amount of light that will pass through the tree and so may be used to good effect in dense trees that are creating too much shade in a garden.

The term crown lifting simply refers to the removal of the lower branches of a tree's crown.   By removing a few low branches, a surprising amount of light and space can be achieved.   This technique can be useful when low branches interfere with lawn mowing or when there is a danger of people hitting their heads on low boughs.
